This summer, I visited some friends who live in rural Pennsylvania. It's beautiful country and while I was there, I wanted to see if I could get some good landscape photos. So, I scouted out a good spot and waited for a morning without rain in the forecast. On the first day without rain, I got up early to shoot a sunrise, but was met with thick fog and went straight back to bed. When this happened again the next day, the temptation to go back to bed was yet again strong, but time was limited and I didn't want to go home without taking any good landscapes.

So, I decided to see what I could do in the fog, while hoping it might lift. First, I got this spooky photo of a barn (above), but there was clearly no sunrise and the fog wasn't thinning. So, I jumped in my car, figured I'd abandon the place I had scouted, and gambled that I could find something else. I hoped that if I perhaps drove up on a ridge, I might rise above the fog. To my relief, that is exactly what happed. My gamble paid off!

I am very happy with these photos. The Pennsylvania countryside is gorgeous and the early sun shining through the morning fog was spectacular!
