Statue of Freedom and the November supermoon
On November 5, we had a full moon at the same time that the moon was at its closest point in its orbit to the Earth. This resulted a full moon that was bigger and brighter than a typical full moon and is known as a “supermoon”. I took the opportunity to take a photo of the Statue of Freedom framed against the supermoon. The statue sits atop the dome of the Capitol in Washington, D.C. The weather was not very cooperative at first because it was quite cloudy. However, there was one small window in which the clouds parted just enough for the moon to shine through and I got it! Incidentally, there’s a different name in each moon for a full moon. The full moon in November is known as the “Beaver Moon”. So, I suppose this was a super beaver moon. Comments |
